Blogging Type???
A few months ago I was getting tattooed at Stay Humble Tattoo in Baltimore, MD. It was my first time sitting with Fran Massino so we spent a few hours exchanging life stories. Somewhere between stories of telling Fran about teaching video production for 20 years, Ironman finish lines, broken collarbones and my new passion of endurance coaching he interrupted me. He said something like, “that’s sweet, you can use your knowledge of video production to document all this cool shit you’re doing on YouTube.” I laughed, and replied, “I’m not the vlogging type.”
Planting a Seed
One of the reasons I was getting my artwork done at Stay Humble is the shop’s name. When I was looking for a tattoo artist and found Dave Wah’s Stay Humble, it seemed like a perfect fit. A principle that I try to live by and admire in others is humbleness. To me, vlogs are the annoying YouTube channels my kids like where it seems like the people are just desperate for attention. Fran went on to talk about his new adventure into running, competing is his first marathon and using these times of the pandemic to get more serious about running. He referenced all of the great resources and running vlogs that he watches on YouTube and that planted a seed.
Over the next few months during some long rides and runs or when I was writing training plans for athletes, I had visions of creating content to share about what I have learned and what I believe. Nothing motivated me… so I took no action. But then in February, I found myself scouring the Internet and YouTube for some advice on an injury and wasn’t able to find any good resources. The seed Fran planted started to grow and I thought, “what the hell, let’s give it a go.”
…and so it begins
Launching a new website for the coaching business and starting my own YouTube Vlog didn’t seem like enough of a challenge so I thought I would add this Blog as well. Next, I should probably put a list of bullet points on what this blog will be covering and how often I will post, but to be honest that’s something I can’t do. What I can tell you is for the next three months I’m going to be sharing my story of going from a torn meniscus to an Ironman start and hopefully finish. I’m excited to have you follow along.
I’m looking forward to being further inspired and educated by your YouTube videos!
Thanks, I’ve been editing with every spare minute and should have them out soon.
